Is there any "time off" from the game?

Of course. None of us want to participate in the game all the time, and we understand that situations may come up which prevents a player from participating in the game.

Players in non-Department Head positions (see: Department Head positions) are only required to write one post per month. As this requirement allows ample "time off", these rules do not apply to those positions unless otherwise stated.

"Working in advance": If a player submits more posts during the course of a posting week then is required by his or her position, they receive one “post credit” that may be applied automatically to a future posting week when a player may otherwise be unavailable to post. Post credits are automatically deducted when a player does not meet their weekly posting requirements, and post credits cannot be used for two or more consecutive weeks.

Players may have a cumulative total of 1 post credit at any time.

Personal Leaves of Absence: If a player cannot participate in the game for a short period of time (such as when the player is away on vacation or attending weddings or funerals), they may request a personal leave of absence. The leave of absence must be requested in advance, before the start of the first posting week in which the player will be unavailable to participate.

When requesting a leave of absence, please indicate the amount of time you expect to be away from the game. Planned absences longer then 3 weeks must request an extended leave of absence instead of a personal leave of absence.

During the leave of absence, the player's character(s) are considered still on duty, and may be referenced in posts by other players.

Extended Leaves of Absence: If a player cannot participate in the game for an extended or indefinite amount of time (such as: moving, overseas vacations, planned medical operations, for example), the player may request an extended leave of absence. The player's character(s) may be written out of any duty requirements - such as placing the character on medical leave or taking personal leave off the ship. Alternatively, the player's character(s) may become non-posting NPCs (with the player's permission) for the duration of the leave of absence.

The player's position will remain unavailable for recruitment and advancement purposes for at least 6 weeks after the first posting week in which the player does not participate. After those 6 weeks, there is no guarantee that the position will still be available when the player returns.
